Android has not seeing much love from Japan. To this date, Japan has only 3 Android (international) handsets offered by carriers. HTC Magic came out about a year ago from Docomo, and they also released Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 in April this year. Softbank meanwhile released HTC Desire end of April this year. And then very recently, both Docomo and AU KDDI released an Android smartphone, which looks more like a PDA.
Here is Docomo’s Lynx:
And here’s AU’s IS01:
They might look the same, that’s because they are. They are essentially the same device, made by Sharp, with some...

Just yesterday got Ubuntu 9.10 installed on a iMac 27 incher. Here is small guide to the installation.
Step 1: You need to partition your hard drive. Use the pre-installed Boot Camp Assistant program (Applications->Utilities->Boot Camp Assistant) for this.
You probably will need to divide the drive in half because the other option of 32GB (I think) will not be enough.
Step 2: Install rEFIT. This will give you a boot menu at startup where you can choose between Ubuntu and Mac OS X. Below is a screen shot of what you will see at start up (note: This is after Ubuntu installation).
Step 3:...

So it’s barely 24 hours since I received the SmartQ7. Hope you had a look at the photos I posted earlier. I had sometime to play around with it so I will round up my initial impression briefly.
1) Solid build for $200 device. You are definitely getting worth your money.
2) A tab heavy for prolonged periods of handheld use, but the luxury of a 7″ comes at cost.
3) Ideal as an eReader. Can view in landscape and portaint mode and “fit to width” option will nicely adjust the page to the screen. The application is “Evince”.
4) Ubuntu inside. Meaning you can do...

Now it’s possible to highlight your PDF’s on SmartQ7. With the new firmware ver.5.0 comes with a Ubuntu repository and in there you can find vast amount of apps. Okular is one of them. SmartQ7 is ideal as a e-reader. But it would be great if you can make notes and highlight text in the pdf you are you are reading right? The default pdf reader that comes installed, Evince, will not let you do much except viewing it. But Okular lets you.

Flashed my SmartQ7 with the newest firmware, ver.5.0 and so far it is pretty good. It looks and feels much better than ver.4.0. This version looks more polished. The most important is run a Ubuntu Karmic Koala port meaning you will access to a large number of applications that are available for a normal Ubuntu installation. Let me walk you through briefly.

Here is a screen shot. If you have seen ver.4.0 you’d immediately notice that this is much different. This version has a dock at the bottom...

So here’s my first real post. I received the Arduino Ethernet Shield today. Plugged it in top of the Arduino board, connected the USB and a Ethernet cable and I was ready to go. Honestly the exact workings of the code is a little mystery for me at the moment but I tried out some demo codes, and this piece of hardware is real deal. There are so many things a simple modder can do with this. For example, below I am showing this working as a web server.
